My car was driven by a person who "jumped a curb" front tires only. Since then ( a couple months ago) the VSC light came on and remained on. I was able to clear it a few times by disconnecting the battery, since nothing else seem to be wrong at the time.
Well, few months down the road (now) the power steering went out just like that. I was getting gas and when I went to leave, absolutely no power steering. I have went thru all the DYI suggestions I found, Which is really only checking the fuses and having it diagnosed from Les Schwab. It came up with 3 codes and Les told me to take it to the dealer (of course.)
I am not working at this time, so that is not really an option for me right now (to afford the needed repairs). Does anyone have ANY advice or suggestions regarding this issue? Codes were PWR Steering C1554. VSC C1201. ECU P0031
DTC C1554/54 Detection item:EPS relay circuit Trouble areas: EPS fuse, PIG power source circuit, power steering ECU
C1201 Brake control / Dynamic control system : Vehicle stability control system This code is for the ABS / Dynamic control system, when you set this code it is because you have a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) that is stored, This is the "P" code which is for the powertrain system.
The reason for the code is whenever the CK ENG LT is set the ABS system is disabled, this is for safety, the reason the vehicle is no longer at manufacture specifications, If you do not have a CK ENG LT clear the ABS / Dynamic code.
I agree with what Solara350 said, C1201 can be ignored, it is only present because there are other codes. P0031 will set a check engine light (which will also set the VSC light).
C1554 is related to your steering issue, it is "Power source relay malfunction is detected." and is related specifically to the EPS fuse (larger than a typical fuse) and/or the steering ECU and/or the wiring between them.
1. Check connectors at the power steering ECU, which is mounted underneath the battery. If there are issues here, fix them (either with the connector/wiring or the computer). 2. Check the EPS fuse for continuity. This is mounted in the main fuse box on the LH front area of the engine bay. 3. Check the wiring at the steering ECU connector. On the 11-pin connector, check that pin 4 has +12V and that pin 5 has ground.
If the fuse is good, if there is power to the ECU, it's probably the ECU that needs to be replaced.
As far as the P0031 code, that is related to your B1S1 wideband air/fuel (A/F) ratio oxygen sensor. Bank 1 sensor 1 is the RH sensor in the manifold pre-catalytic converter. In most cases, this will simply require a new sensor, but in some cases it could be something else.
If you disconnect the A/F sensor, on the sensor-side of the connector, check the resistance between pin 1 and 2, it should be between 1.8-3.4 Ω and check between pin 1 and 4, it should be higher than 10 kΩ (no continuity or short to the sensor housing). If for some reason the sensor checks out fine, there is other diagnostic checking you could do, but again, it's probably the sensor, so I'd be willing to bet it needs one.

P0031 - Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
Check your Steering wheel ECU area see if something came lose. don't worry about C1201 but should look at P0031.

Check into both of these, get them taken care of/fixed/replaced and clear the system, that should take care of C1201.
