17559 - Long Term Fuel Trim Additive Air; Bank 1; Range 1: System too Lean" I've done some reading in the fuel trim post, but it seems that everyone with my exact problem never got an answer in that thread. I've got all of these ideas swirling around:
-Vacuum leak
-bad MAF
-clogged injectors

I'm not sure if anyone has any other ideas, or a suggestion on the order of operation. I see now (after clearing the code) that we should have run a block 032 to get the trim values. It may be a few days before I can get those.
The light's still off for the time being - Is there anything to the fact that the diag. labeled the code as "INTERMITTENT"?

What are the fuel trim numbers? They would give a better idea of what the problem is. Check the vacuum lines. Check the hard tube coming out of the brake booster for cracks. MAFs are known to fail on them.

Spray your MAF sensor own with CRC MAF cleaner, run some seafoam through your gas tank, drive it about 100 miles or so and then change the oil. After that, check spark plugs in case they are fouled and mist the plug wires in the dark to see if they are arcing. If they plug wires arc they need replacing.

To check for vac leaks, take some carb cleaner and spray the vac lines. If spraying a specific line makes the RPM's climb then that's your leak. Also your pre-cat 02 sensor may be reading improperly, if it is it could cause the ECU to think it's burning too rich and trim the fuel map accordingly.

Lots of possibilities here...start with the MAF cleaner (I recommend cleaning it every oil change anyways), then go to plugs (they're 2 bucks each so they're not bad), then test the plug wires cause those are expensive and so is an 02 sensor. If those don't fix it test for vac leaks but you'd be having other problems like rough idle if you had one.

P1111 & P1151 codes
Checked the injector resistance and all were in tolerance. I can not find any loose/cracked vacuum hoses and engine runs and drives fine. Secondary Air Pump working upon cold start up and shutting of in about 1 minute as usual.

Replaced recirculating valve for turbo and also had a "17559.P1151 Long term fuel trim additive air, area1: system to lean. Code 17559.P1151 still in and now have this code as well. "17519.P111 Oxygen sensor control Bank1: system to lean". Any suggestions to pass on would be appreciated.

Did you just ricently cleaned the oxygen sensor? Try reseting the main cpu by unplugging the battery cable and leave off for about 10 minutes, then plug back in and see if the system resets.

It might run a little rough for a while until the cpu resets all the peramaters again. Mine did the same when I cleaned the O2 sensor and throttle body valve and threw a code system too lean. I reset the battery and it ran rough for about 3 days and then it smooth out....now purrs like a kitten.LOL welcome to the newbeetle.org family

P0507 - Idle Control System RPM High
Anybody know if an alternator install (done wrong) could cause this? car's idling high (and irregularly). 24v 2002.5 vr6.

VW DTC 17559 (P1151) - Bank 1, Long Term Fuel Trim, Range 1 Leanness Lower Limit Exceeded
For the lean issue, that can be one of a couple things:
- there could be a vacuum leak in the hoses or a bad intake seal..
- could be a cracked exhaust pipe that's before the pre-cat O2 sensor...

- the MAF could be failing...
- or the pre-cat O2 sensor is fault and needs replacement.
Now, before throwing parts at the car, a VAG-COM can test the MAF and O2 sensors...
Plus you can data-log the fuel trim on the car to verify.

VW DTC 16891 (P0507) - Idle Control System Higher than Expected
So, have you cleaned your throttle body at all?
Have you completed a Throttle Body Alignment (TBA) with a VAG-COM?
If no success, you might be looking at a definite vacuum / seal leak... which relates back to your lean burn condition.
