Brake Light switches fail consistently on the Saab 900 and the Saab 9000. When they fail most often a failed switch will cause the brake lights to stay on all the time.

STEP 1 Lay down in the drivers floor and look up behind the knee bolster at the black vent tube STEP 2 Remove the screw that secures it on the left side STEP 3 Bend back the vent tube behind the brake pedal (it won't hurt it) STEP 4 Look at the brake pedal switch attached to a silver bracket unplug it and remove it

STEP 5 Removal can be tough because it is tabbed but you simply move it for and aft and the tabs will break STEP 6 Be careful not to grab the wrong switch. Cruise switches look similar but have a vacuum hose coming out You can make the tab on the brake switch longer by pulling on the end of it. When you install it will self-adjust STEP 7 Refit in reverse but be sure that the adjustment is correct
