1) Make sure the car is in Park with the Emergency Brake on and the wheels chocked.
2) Get a friend to help you.
3) When your friend presses the Start button, measure whether voltage appears at the Solenoid terminal of the starter. If no voltage, then you know it isn't the starter. (You can prove this by jumping some voltage directly to the solenoid terminal).
2014/5/16(金) 午後 4:24返信する
4) If this is a manual transmission, then there is a switch connected to the brake system that will disable the starter if it thinks that the brake is not depressed. Sometimes that switch fails to activate.

I HAVE A BMW E88 AND WONT START SHOWING FAULT CODE A0B4 ON DIAGNOSTICS, HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS STARTING PROBLEM

125 BMW WONT START, FUEL PRESSURE IS GOOD BUT SHOWING AOB4 ON DIAGNOSTICS AS FAULT. ENGINE DOES CRANCK, SEEMS LIKE SPARK IS MISSING.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 4:28返信する
check timing marks on cam sprocket, could be one tooth 'retarded'.
Then the fuel injectors are not pulsing, replace the crankshaft sensor,it controls the spark, but also the pulse for the injectors.

Re:"truck try to start but, look like not caching all cylinders cause while crank, if i puhs acelerator to the floor then try to start i remove plugs they, are wet i clean then reinstall,"
If you are saying that the cylinders are flooding and there is misfire, check the coil packs.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 4:31返信する
This get tested reading Ohms on primary and secondary coils, reading volts in. Ohms on primary coil terminal (B+) must be in range of 0.3-1Ohms, secondary resistance reads between 5K and 15K. There are different kind of coil packs for this engine. Their ratio is always about 90:1, to return 45K Volts.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 4:33返信する
On this one impedances should be 0.2 ohm primary resistance; 6.7 KOhms secondary resistance.
Other way to test coil packs is swapping the two packs in this engine (not swapping spark cables, swapping the modules).
Also do a code scan. If there is misfire this is reported as P03xx OBDII code.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 4:33返信する
Reading codes you can also find out if there is any rich or lean code detected by the O2 sensor. If car is not starting at all there will be no mixture code reported from O2 sensors, as there is no ignition.
Regarding mixture, if ignition and distribution is OK, check the factors that determine mixture.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 4:35返信する
Check MAP/MAF sensor and IAT sensor. Test starting with new air filter , test with no fuel cap and check the vacuum. If vacuum has a hole it will **** air in the mixture, mixture will be lean, you have pressure but the engine does not ignite even if there is spark.
To test vacuum use the fuel gauge in vacuum lines and spray carb cleaner on hoses, if there is a hole pressure will go up.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 4:36返信する
If still nothing check and eventually replace the AC delco EGR valve. Valve stuck open is a common failure, car will not start, engine will flood. In that case the mixture is rich.
PS:Please stop telling everybody "if you dont know dont answer" There are two kind of answers, the ones from people who does not have a clue and go for the few bucks, and the one from people that may help you. There is no way to filter them.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 4:37返信する
Most of the answers are from experts but some idio t is also posting. Simply discard the bad ones and stick to the good ones.
You should stick with an expert and keep troubleshooting, not keep arguing.
I know you are discarding everything, and probably going for r., but who cares. I am out of here.
All the best, good luck with your GM engine.

Perhaps it is the solenoid in the electric steering lock system that does not disengage properly and is intermittent. Do you hear a low level click sound when the fob is inserted?
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:04返信する
Hello queensfield.
Right now the car is starting up. So it will be hard diagnosing it.
I need to try what you said when the problem happens and car won't start.
Happens hourly to weekly. Its killing me
When car is running no problem it won't turn off on me. But when I turn it off and restart the car that's when randomly won sart :(
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:06返信する
Hey George. When it refuses to start, perhaps listen to the disengage sound of the solenoid when you insert the key fob. If the starter is good, IBS is OK, battery is providing voltage, then electronic lock steering is a real possibility and it might be intermittent. Hope you fix your problem soon. Let us know.

Hi Queensfield.
will try and let you know
HI G Jonblaze > you probably need to check fuse and if you have a scanner scan it maybe something to do with the immobilizer , usually when car turns and just turns with no start i get a immobilizer code which is built in the with the CAS Module under the drivers side dash, you can RE- Aline CAS - DME and it should work.

im waiting for it to stop again and if i hear it still
Auto logic is connected & here is the battery voltage its reading

Terminal 15 Wake Up ACC .13V

Terminal 15 Wake Up PT CAN 0.0V
Terminal 15 Wake Up ACC 0.0V
Car Turned on With AC & Lights ON
Battery Voltage 12.70V
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:12返信する
But The Battery Voltage Is in the range of 11.50-13.10 car started it fluctuating
is this normal? and car off its going down to .13- 0 Volts is it because the car is sleeping?

how do you realign these? via a scan tool or something of the sort? any instructions? sorry, a bit of a noob with electrics but would like to know what im talking about when narrating to someone else

Hi George,
I think i may have a similar issue like you...see my post here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=686114
I have only had one issue of not starting on the first push of the button in the last week (only had the car for 3 weeks)
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:15返信する
Just monitoring the situation at the moment, i don't have any fault code readers so don't know if i'm getting any errors being logged.
I will let you know how things develop and have subscirbed to your thread.
One thing was mentioned on my post was to check whether your brake light switch is working (assuming that you have an auto)

Any progress towards resolution George?
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:17返信する
Pulled this from manual. Maybe give it a shot....
PROBLEM: Engine does not crank. Only the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) and red brake lights show in the instrument cluster with ignition on. FC A111 (ELV voltage supply fault) is stored in the CAS (Car Access System).
NOTE: As a result of a change in government requirements, the ELV was deleted in most 2007 and later models. Anti-theft protection continues to be provided by drive-away protection in EWS.

SOLUTION: Disconnect the IBS connector (3 pin connector with 2 wires) at the negative battery terminal. Follow the white/blue and gray wires from the IBS to locate the connector.
Now try starting the vehicle. If the vehicle starts, replace the faulty IBS.
-----------------------
The IBS is connected to the negative battery terminal. Be careful as it is sensitive to mechanical stress and strain.

Here's more information:
If the starter and solenoid click repeatedly without starting vehicle:
-Check battery state of charge
-Inspect battery and starter cables, terminals, amd ground connections for good contact. In particular, make sure ground connections between battery, body, and engine are completely clean and tight.
-If no faults are found, starter may be faulty and should be replaced.
If starter fails to operate, check the following:
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:20返信する
-Car Access System. Try another ignition key. If no faults can be found, have CAS checked using BMW scan tool.
NOTE: Automatic transmission neutral safety switch function is built into the transmission mechatronics electronics. Failure of this function causes a no-start condition.

Hi, is that taken from a workshop manual? If so, I may grab one off eBay as they are quite cheap

From the Bently service manual. Cost about 80 bucks but well worth it.

Hey George. A thought- try updating the DME software. Dealer might charge you $80-120 or so for getting a software update.

Hello.
Do you thing might be the problem ?
Only option left DME or JBE.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:30返信する
Here's some more information:
Symptom - Engine does not vrank
Probable Cause - Fault in CAS.
Solution - Try another key
Symptom - Engine cranks slowly or not at all, solenoid clicks when starter is operated
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:31返信する
Cause - 1. Battery cables loose, dirty, corroded. 2. Battery discharged 3. Battery to body ground cable in trunk loose, dirty, or corroded. 4. Poor connection at starter motor terminal X6512 5. Starter motor or solenoid faulty.
Obviously, you've ruled out a lot of these. I know the starter is good, but double check your connection is tight.

Hi,
The following codes were thrown up on a E92 M3, would appreciate if someone could explain (in laymans terms!) what they mean please:
1 - Function Centre, Roof (FZD) - A670 Fogging sensor
2 - Instrument Cluster (INSTR) - A559 Supply was switched off (terminal 30g-f)

5 - Digital Motor/Diesel Electronics (DME/DDE) - 2B13 Speed recording
Thanks in advance

They could simply be a result of a low battery. Have you had any electrical repairs or mods done lately?
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:46返信する
Hi Alpina,
The only things i've had done was a Viper alarm fitted, but that was about a year ago. Ive had the low battery warning come up a couple of times as I don't use the car that often.
Just wondered if I need to be concerned with any of them.
2014/5/16(金) 午後 5:47返信する
It's quite possible that the errors were flagged when the alarm was installed or maybe when you had a flat battery.
Best to get them cleared and give it a few days before having it scanned again. That will tell you if there's anything wrong.
