Hi all was wondering if anyone can help my sisters prius has a dead battery and the lock was double locked when she last used the car. Does anyone know by any chance how i'd get in the car now.
Thanks

I have a dead battery on a 2009 Prius - How do I release the hatchback? I have exposed the battery in the corner and the spare tire. -Ric
Hello and thank you for using just answer! This car jump starts just like any other car. The owners manual has some good pictures describing battery access. The battery is in the back of the car, open the back door and remove the cargo floor liners to access the battery. Option 2 is open the hood and remove the fuse panel coveron the driver side and there I a jump port there.
Note that these have AGM 12 volt batteriesthat charge very slow, I recommend connecting the car to a battery charger for at least 5 hours set at a 10 amp charge rate to properly and fully charge it. If you jump start this car and drive it the battery will not charge any quicker so be aware that it is going to have to be charged, it doesn't recharge quickly off an alternator like non-hybrid cars do.
Dead 12v batteries are not a Prius-specific problem. Modern cars run lots of things - computers, lights, window motors, smart key systems, whatever - off their 12v batteries, and leaving any of these on can run down the battery on any car. It's happened at least twice on our 2001 Passat.
