Problem with the 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I have a similar problem on my 2001 C240 Auto. Intermittent ESP error
comes on dashboard and there is no throttle unless you switch off car
and start again.

Problem has become more frequent now and happens about
once or twice a day. Was told by dealership that its a fualty
accelerator pedal, which I replaced but to no avail. Managed to take it
into dealership while error was still displayed on dash.
They put
computer on which gave the following error for ESP: C1022-002 CAN bus
fault and C1202 A7/7s1 (BAS release switch). I have also noticed that
problem only occurs at low speed and about 90% of the time when you are
turning left. Any sugges

Tech Tip: Mercedes-Benz Brake Pedal Switch Adjustment
January 02, 2008
Fault codes C1200, C1201 or C1202 may be set in the ESP control module in the event of a misadjusted brake pedal switch on the following models: 129,170, 202, 208, 210, 215 and 220.

Before adjusting the brake pedal switch, use DAS and check the switch for proper voltage supply. If replacing the switch, ensure that the correct part number is installed based on the vehicle model.

Service Procedure:
1. Remove the stop lamp switch and pull out the self-adjusting tappet.

2. Re-install the stop lamp switch and place a spacer with a thickness of 1.5 mm between the stop lamp switch tappet and the stop on the brake pedal.

3. Release the brake pedal (the stop lamp switch will adjust itself automatically) and, at the same time, pull back the brake pedal by hand with slightly more force than the force of the return spring.

4. When the setting process has been completed, the spacer must be removed.

Note: The brake pedal switch adjustment process will affect the BAS system. The BAS release switch fault may be stored as a result of the plausibility test between the BAS release witch and the brake pedal switch if the brake pedal switch is incorrectly adjusted.

The last time I had this fixed, the codes pointed to the steering angle sensor - vehicle was in shop for a couple of weeks and eventually the steering shaft had to be replaced. I don't think the problem is that bad (never thought it was that in the first repair, but that was warranty work) and I don't have the time or cash for that kind of work.

I have tried the steering lock maneuver but I'm not sure it's working. For now, no lights but I'm almost certain it'll pop up. The brake switch has already been replaced (a few years back, in warranty), but that's not to say it couldn't be the problem. What I'd like to know is which particular sequence of issues that trigger this warning would also lock up the tranny. Does that make sense?

brake light switch was eliminated in 02 I believe.. the part about the tranny is the strange thing.

Brake pedal switch was eliminated as of A372935 or production date 09/2002. It is most likely problem. It has two sets of contacts. One operates brake lights other shifter lock.

well thats good news.. but i thought dark had an '05

Yes I do have an 05. I think I'm confusing the brakelight switch replacement - it was on my 01 E430 and I believe it was also replaced on my 01 ML320. Yes, the shifter locks only if I engage P when the light is on. Like I said earlier, the last time it happened, the entire stering column was basically replaced!

Have it scanned. Codes C1201, C1202, C1203 are likely present for switch A7/7s1 inside brake booster.

Thanks. Would that mean bad booster or most likely a bad sensor?

turns out there was a build up of corrosion on the hub which talks to the abs sensor , this corrosion was so great it then wore away the end of the sensor thus bringing the light on when raining

Yaw Rate Sensor Removal 2000 C230K All,

I just had the ole $1200 conversation with my MB dealer about replacing a malfunctioning Yaw Rate Sensor on my 2000 C230K. The problem is that this is causing a dangerous situation because it is randomly engaging my brakes at all speeds when it thinks the car is out of control.

My $1200 question is:

Can you simply remove the Yaw Rate Sensor?

My assumption is in doing so the BAS/ESP system will default to "OFF" and stay disengaged. If this is the case I can live with the illuminated BAS/ESP light.

Anyone know?

what happens if you turn off the ESP with the ESP switch? does it help? are your tire sizes correct on the car?

2011/2/11(金) 午後 3:17ogw*og*2返信する

Even with the ESP turned off the the problem persists. The problem is the yaw rate sensor. The tires and wheels are OEM. I am just wondering what would happen when the Yaw Rate Sensor is removed. Will the computer simply shut the ESP system down when it does its initial diagnostic that it goes through during the start up process.....if it does then its a very very simple and cheap solution...if not I may be getting rid of the car.

Thanks for your insight though!

Please let your ESP System read-out with Bosch KTS 650 or Star and tell as the Error- Code.

The codes are:
C1012
C1200
C1200-001
C1200-004
C1200-016
C1140-128
C1202

I think the problem is reduced down to the Yaw Rate Sensor....do you by chance know what would happen if i just remove the sensor and drive the car without it?

you can still drive it youll just have the esp light on. and your traction control wont work

AWESOME!!! That is great news because I really did not want to shell out 1K plus on this issue.

Even though the sensor is out and the Traction Control (BAS/ESP) is shut down, the ABS system will still operate normally right? I assume yes because it is an independent system, but just wanted to ask to be sure.

The Yaw Rate Sensor is in the trunk of the 2000 C230 right? Under the plastic screw down panel?

Thanks so much for your help!

Here how to test the Yaw Sensor:1. Remove the Sensor from the Car.2. Aply 12 Volt on the Sensor.3.Connect on the output terminal the multitester. 4.Move the Sensor to the left and right. Wen the output voltage is changing up and down the Sensor is ok.Wen the voltage is zero or stable supply voltage the Sensor is damage.
Hope this will clarify the problem.

現在故障ではないので、断線、ショートより、ゼロ・ポイントの誤差などの可能性を想定してみた。
が、ここまでのTOOLでは予約コードの概念がでてこないが、条件判定では即反応しないケースも多い。
