Where is the Mini cooper oil filter located?
As you look at the engine, hood up (of course!) it's between the engine & firewall, below the headers and on the left (passenger) end of the engine.

It's an aluminum casting cover with a cartridge style filter inside. Don't look for the typical 'spin on' filter as that's not how the MINI oil filter is designed. it's a round cover with a large hex head on it for a socket.
Hope this is helpful

on a 2008 mini cooper s the oil filter is on the front of engine to right side under exhaust is still a paper type cartridge with a hex type head on it

Oil Filter Cannister Socket - R50/52/53 Mini Cooper And S Will this item fit my car?
36mm 3/8 drive Socket for removing Oil Filter Cartridge. The MINI oil filter cannister is positioned on the back of the engine with very little clearance to the firewall. You need a very low profile socket like this one in order loosen and remove the filter cannister.

Oil Change- Recommended oil change interval every 5000km for conventional oil engines and every 8000km for synthetic oil engines. BMW vehicles late 1999 and up are synthetic oil and previous models operate with conventional oil. BMW and Mini oil change intervals according to the service indicator on the dash are approximately 25,000km between oil changes.
2012/9/23(日) 午前 6:02
We recommend more frequent oil changes to maintain engine performance and durability over the life of your vehicle. It may also be a benefit to you to come in every 6 months to change the oil and filter, check hoses, brakes, fluids and a visual inspection of the vehicle. Regular maintenance may save you money over the lifetime of your vehicle, and possibly save you from a future breakdown.

BMW Inspection I & II- Service indicator light on your instrument cluster will let you know when your full service maintenance inspection is due, when all the green lights have gone out and the yellow or red indicator light has appeared.

Coolant system Flush- Coolant keeps your engine within normal operating temperature, prevents freezing in winter and maintains the internal surfaces of your engine by preventing corrosion and protecting hoses, gaskets, seals, o-rings, radiator and lubricating the water pump.
2012/9/23(日) 午前 6:08
New coolant protects and lubricates these components, as coolant ages (2-3yrs) the pH level drops and it can no longer provide this level of protection. Coolant is not subjected to the same extreme conditions as engine oil and therefore does not need to be changed as frequent. We recommend changing engine coolant every 2-3 years to keep the cooling system operating efficiently.
2012/9/23(日) 午前 6:08
Brake system Flush- Brake fluid protects the brake system, lines, calipers, hoses, pistons and seals. It is designed to absorb water to protect the brake system from corrosion. Moisture lowers the boiling point of the fluid and also can cause corrosion in the system if not replaced. Brake fluid should be replaced a minimum of every 2 years as recommended by BMW and Mini factory service.
2012/9/23(日) 午前 6:10
Transmission Fluid- Most BMW transmissions are “lifetime fluid” according to BMW factory service guidelines. To maintain the long term service of your transmission, we believe that it may be a good investment to change the transmission fluid and filter every 100,000km.
