日本国内のPO:販売陣は表題のサービス人員に期待しているようだ。恐らく、そこに出てこない、 強力な特殊ルートもあるのではとみている。 昨今の経済状況でスポーツ・ジャンルの状況も 大きな影響を受けているが、そのジャンルで多くの優秀なメカニックが育ったのではと思う。 さて、それらの人員が全国どの様に分布しているのかも興味あるテーマだ。
記者の目として、遠藤幸宏氏のコメントがあるが、PO:に限らない課題が其処にはあり、それが業界の 苦悩でもあろう。

帰りにエリーゼを運転すると、やはりエリーゼはいいな、MTはいいなと思いました。パドルでPDKを操るのもいいですが、MTに比べるとやはり単なるAT。また、がつんがつんきますが、乗り心地は方向性は違うもののエリーゼもいいです。エンジンも2ZZはポルシェに負けていません。やっぱ、いくら安い見積もりを提示されても乗り換えは無理ですね。追加が理想です。(^O^;;ただ、相方の視点から見ると、どうみてもボクスター圧勝です。ケイマンではなく、ボクスターの在庫があったら・・・もしかするともしかしていたかもしれません。

PSM
今の986Sを購入するとき、OPでつけようか、どうしようか一番迷ったのがPSMです。
最初はいらないと思っていたのですが、セールス担当に強く勧められ、信じて装着することにしました。986は税抜で17万もしたのに、987では標準となり羨ましくも思っています。
しかし私は結果として、付けてみて損はなかったと感じています。

PSMは安全装備なので保険として、付いていたにこしたことはないのですが、すべての人に対して、絶対に必要、とも思っていません。
必要に思う場合は、
①雪の上を走る場合。
②雨の中をそれなりの速度で走る場合。
③腕に自信がないのに、がんばりたい場合。
と考えています。ちなみに私の場合は当然③に該当しています。

PSMの介入は、大きく分けて二つの作動を感じます。一つはスロットルを踏んでも燃料カットされスロットルを絞られること(トラコンと同じ)、もう一つは、どこかのタイヤに勝手にブレーキがかかること、の二つです。これらが組み合わさって、何がなんだかわからないまま、強制的に姿勢を立て直されます。介入している時はランプが点いて場合よっては「ガリガリガリガリ・・・」という音がします。
この音はABSともちょっと違います。

スロットルを踏んでも燃料カットされている場合は、ちょっと苛つく場合もありますが、そのあたり、987のスポーツクロノパッケージは、もっとうまくやってくれるのだと思っています。
私の場合、PSMは雨のサーキットでは効きまくりです。ドライでも介入してきますが、だから助かったと感じたことはありません。ドライの公道でも介入してくることはありますが、それで助かったと感じたこともありません。
しかし、付いていることで心理的に非常に安心できるというところがあります。とにかくスピンを防いでくれます。どうすればスピンするのか、ちょっと実験してみたくなるくらいです。
硬派なユーザーには、不要と思われるかもしれませんが、サーキットへの門を広くした功績は大きいと思っています。
購入時はそれほど期待はしていなかったんですが、ホントよくできたシステムと思いました。

I had to change the 8 year old battery on my Boxster. I keep the car connected to a battery maintainer to keep the battery fresh but it eventually went bad. After replacing the battery, I got a psm failure that eventually went away. I was just wondering if there is anything else I need to reset after a battery change?

Your PSM wasn't really "reset". You probably got that PSM error until the new battery was fully charged up by the alternator from regular driving. If the PSM unit isn't getting enough juice, because of a low/bad battery or alternator, you will often see this kind of error. If the errors are gone and everything is working fine with your new battery, you're good to go... no further resetting or other work necessary.

Silver_TT is correct; both ABS and PSM MIL lights are not uncommon when one of these cars goes into a low voltage situation, and they typically clear themselves once the voltage is back up and require no further attention.

All normal. You just might need to retrain your windows. Automatic up & down. This is why you use a battery maintainer. You can make an OEM battery last 8 years. Good job!

Control unit memories
Values and faults stored in the control units can be deleted if the battery is disconnected or completely discharged. If possible, all fault memories should be checked and, if necessary, printed out before the battery is disconnected.
Supply voltage fault entry
The entry "supply voltage" may be stored in various control units if the battery has been completely discharged. Delete the "supply voltage" entry from the control units in question.

Ready status
In some countries (presently the U.S.A. and Canada), after disconnecting the battery, it is necessary to reach the Ready status by a test drive and/or by using the Porsche System Tester DME control module menu). If in doubt about this, contact the relevant importer.

With all DME systems, the engine must run for several minutes before the engine control module can relearn the idle speed and mixture adaptation values! After disconnection of the power supply, the idle speed might change or fluctuate briefly until the throttle valve adjusting unit has been readapted.
The mixture adaptation is also lost.

With the DME, it is necessary to carry out a learning and adaptation routine as described below:
Switch ignition on for 30 seconds without starting the engine.
Do not actuate accelerator pedal.

Tyre pressure monitoring system
When the battery is disconnected and connected, the tyre pressure is first displayed as "- - - ".
Once the battery has been disconnected and work is complete, the vehicle must be driven for a short distance.The actual pressures will then be displayed again.

The steering angle sensor must be re-initialised when the battery is disconnected and connected.
Turn wheels to straight-ahead position.
Switch ignition off and then on again twice.

From the straight-ahead position, turn steering wheel approx. 20° to the right, past the straight-ahead position.
Drive the vehicle straight ahead for at least one second at a speed above 4 km/h (2.5 mph).
The steering angle sensor segment is recognised again in this process.
Once the sensor has been successfully initialised, the fault code that is stored in the fault memory is documented using the fault deletion counter.

Power windows
The end positions of the power windows are deleted from the control unit when the battery is disconnected and connected.
Perform the following procedure for all power windows:
Actuate rocker switch and fully close window once.

On-board computer
Disconnection of the vehicle battery deletes the memories for average speed and average consumption. As a result, the displayed range on remaining fuel can be markedly different or even 0. The outside temperature display loses its memory effect. In other words, the indicated outside temperature can be too high due to the heat radiated when the vehicle is hot.

On a racing day I would like to turn the PSM off and keep it off for the day. I do not want it to turn back on each time the ignition is cycled off and on again.

On my Mini Cooper S there was an aftrr market electronic circuit that changed the default for ignition turn. At ignition turn ON the stability control was OFF. The switch was then used to turn it on stability control ON. The default condition could also be cahnged back to the OEM set up easily. This arrangement would be ideal for the Cayman S.
Ideas anyone?

To be honest, there is no way to totally disable PSM. The way the car comes, as you indicated, when you manually turn off PSM, it defaults to "On" when you restart the car. But as I said, there is no way to totally disable PSM.

It is always on in the background even when you switch it off. Turning PSM off just allows the program tolerances to be increased allowing you to drive more aggressively without it kicking in. But if you really get out of control, even with PSM switched off, it will kick in and stabilize the car if it thinks you're in trouble.

There might be some programing in PIWIS that would allow you to totally disable the switch, to where you have to manually switch PSM on, but I doubt it. That would be too much of a liability for PCNA, but you can ask your service adviser if PIWIS has that option in the programming.

What about placing your car into sport mode? Trust me you are not going to be faster with PSM off, if you are hitting PSM with it in off or sport mode it is because you are not driving smoothly and getting out of bounds which is going to make you slower not faster.

There may be an ECU tuning solution coming soon that will let you put PSM into sport mode all the time (regardless of whether or not you have sport button) and I'll have to check if it will turn off and keep PSM off, I'm not sure about that one. Of course if completely off there goes your safety net too.

Mantis Sport told me that when you turn PSM off it will automatically engage when the trurn angle and breaking reach a certain point. I have experienced this at sebring on certain turns. Mantis said they got around this by:
"There are two switched on the brake pedal, one for the lights and one for PSM, disconnect the PSM switch and you should be in trail braking heaven."
I'll be trying this Aug 4th and 5th at Sebring and will report what I experience.

My Experience with PSM Off
At a recent Autocross event I spent the morning session (5 runs) with the PSM on. There were several sections where the PSM would cut the throttle out which was very annoying. I still achieved respectable times.

For the afternoon session I turned the PSM off. On my first run (with the tires cold) I swapped ends at the first 90 degree turn . After a couple more runs I was consistently improving my times because I could get the car to oversteer at the proper point in order to align myself for the next section. I was in power slide heaven . The car started to feel like it was an extension of my body.

How long does it take for a PSM Failure/Spoiler Failure to clear post battery change? Recently made the move from a 2005 987.1 to a 2006 997.1. Had the car inspected by Porsche prior to purchasing it. Previous owner told me that the PSM/Spoiler Failures started after he recently put a new battery in it.

The Porsche tech who did the PPI also noted the faults but said that there were no error codes. I've read that these failures are common after a battery change, however, it's been going on for some time now.

The failure seems to happen when hitting a bump (I think usually at high speeds). Sometimes it's both a Spoiler Failure followed by a PSM Failure and other times it's just a PSM Failure. When the car is restarted the fault clears.
