http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/ogw2ogw2/2110411.html

P1151 Lack Of HO2S21 Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean

http://allfordmustangs.com/forums/4-6l-tech/61209-02-sensor-trouble-code-p1151-do-i-need-replace.html

I have a 98 mustang Gt and recently got this trouble code :

P1151 - Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 2

Does this mean i need to raplace the 02 sensor if so which one left or right?

Or is it better to replace both upstream 02 sensors, or all four sensors @ the same time?

what does " Bank No.2 " mean anyways?

Any help would be appreciated thanks

P1151 Lack Of HO2S-21 Switch Indicates Lean (Ford)

What Causes These Codes To Set...?

Excellent question! As I said before there can be any number of causes. And I also said you have to be careful. If one sees a DTC P1130, P1131 or P1132 one might think there is a bad Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and you may be correct... but not this time. A lot of HO2S's are sold at about $100.00 that does not correct the problem. Normally an HO2S sends out a voltage signal from .1V to .9V, or lean to rich. If the PCM gets a lean signal from the HO2S it will richen the fuel mixture to compensate. And if it gets a rich signal, it will lean out the mixture. The computer is looking for the ideal voltage signal of .5V from the HO2S.

This never happens so the HO2S signals ranges, or switches, up and down around that .5V signal. Now when the mixture is so lean that the HO2S stays at the .1V, or the .9V, signal and the computer cannot lean or richen the mixture enough to compensate, you get the "Lack Of Switching" DTC. There is nothing wrong with the HO2S; in fact it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Replacing it will accomplish nothing, except confirm there is nothing wrong with the HO2S you replaced. When the PCM sees this lack of switching it throws this code and turns the Check Engine Light (MIL) on.

1999 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have recently been having a slew of problems with my truck and it seems when i fix one code a new one comes up. Ive taken my truck the the garage 4 times in the past two weeks. First p0306 that was fixed with garage high concentrate injector cleaner. then p0139 which i needed a new o2 sensor. Now im getting P1151. Does anyone know what this could possibly be and how to fix it??

Thanks

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation.

The code is as below, check that the loom plug is clean and tight, and check for loose terminal pins in plug.

Ford says the cause may be an engine vacuum leak, possibly around the PCV valve or in the PCV vacuum plumbing. Such a leak may set the following DTCs: P0171, P0174, P1130, P1131, P1150, P1151, P2195 or P2197.

The codes may indicate a lean fuel condition or a lack of heated oxygen sensor (HEGO) switching. Ford says not to replace the oxygen sensor, MAF sensor or PCM because the cause may only be a vacuum leak or an incorrect sized PCV valve that flows too much air.

To check for a possible vacuum leak, use your scan tool to look at long-term fuel trim (LONGFT) and short-term fuel trim (SHRTFT). With the engine warm and idling, add the long-term and short-term fuel trim numbers together. If the total correction is greater than plus 20% at idle, it probably indicates a vacuum leak that is making the fuel mixture run lean. To confirm the leak, rev the engine to 2,500 rpm and hold.

Again, note the LONGFT and SHRTFT numbers. Add the numbers together. If the total correction at 2,500 rpm drops 15% or more, it confirms a vacuum leak at idle.
To find the vacuum leak, try pinching off individual vacuum hoses one by one while watching the SHRTFT number on your scan tool. When the SHRTFT number drops, you’ve found the leak. If no hose leaks are found, the problem may be a leaky intake manifold gasket.

Try feeding propane around the gasket. When the SHRTFT correction drops, you’ve found the leak.
